Marble and stone sourcing notes
Stone is natural, so the order has to say how much variation you accept. A small sample tile shows colour. It does not show veining, fissures or how slabs will look side by side.
Approve slabs, not only samples
For feature walls, vanity tops and lobby floors, ask for photos of full slabs with block and slab numbers, and approve those. Keep the slab sequence through cutting and packing so book-matched pairs and veining carry across the installation. Reserve the approved lot and write the block number into the order. For high-value stone, piece by piece inspection checks each slab for cracks, colour and thickness.
Ask what treatment was applied
Many marbles and travertines are resin-filled and backed with fibreglass mesh. That is normal practice, but it should be stated because it affects cutting and sealing on site. Put thickness and flatness tolerance, polish level and edge finish in the specification, and measure each bundle. Engineered quartz and sintered stone are cut with dust controls, so check that fabricators in your market follow local silica rules.
Packing decides breakage
Slabs travel upright in A-frames or wooden bundles, and tiles in strong cartons on strapped pallets. Weak crates and loose blocking cause most broken-corner claims. Slab loads are braced inside the container, which is why loading supervision matters more for stone than for most categories.
